Working to meet the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 8 and 12

Fair trade advocates for decent working conditions, fair prices for farmers, sustainable practices, environmental protection and the empowerment of farmers and workers in developing countries. As fair trade requires businesses to pay a fair price to farmers for their crop (acting as a safety net ensuring that farmers never receive less than the cost it took to produce their crop in a sustainable manner), fair trade is levelling the playing field for farmers to ensure they can improve their livelihoods and strengthen their businesses.

Fair trade makes free trade work for the world’s poor

Workers on fair trade farms enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions and sustainable wages

Forced child and slave labour are strictly prohibited

By partnering with Fairtrade International we help to support Chetna Organic in India. Established in 2004, it supports more than 15,000 farmers in Maharashtra, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, helping them to increase the sustainability and profitability of their farming systems and improving their livelihoods.

Fair trade benefits small-scale farmers and workers by facilitating links to international markets through the development of supply chains. Small-scale farmers and workers are amongst the most marginalized groups globally and through fair trade they can lift themselves out of poverty to maintain their successful livelihoods.

Fair trade supports farmers and workers in gaining more from trade and through this they are empowered to control their lives. It is an alternative approach that is based on partnership; one between those who grow our food and those that consume it.

There are over 1226 Fairtrade certified producer organisations in 74 countries
